Insurance FAQ
At MississippiCare, we offer health care for all patients, whether you have insurance, are underinsured, or are uninsured. Please browse through the following FAQs to get information on our payment and insurance policies.
Which insurance plans does MississippiCare accept?
At MississippiCare, we accept many third-party insurance plans, as well as Medicaid and Medicare. If you have third-party insurance or another type of coverage, please call us to ask if we take it. You can also ask your insurance company if your coverage includes MississippiCare providers.
When do patients need to pay for medical care? If you have a deductible, co-insurance or co-payment, we ask that you make this payment at your appointment. If you end up having any other medical fees, you can expect to receive a bill in the mail after your claims are submitted to your insurance provider, Medicare or Medicaid.
How do I sign up for Medicaid or Medicare? Medicaid and Medicare can provide you with affordable health care coverage. If you are not familiar with how to enroll, our case managers can help you with this process. Our case managers are also available to make sure that you understand what is included in your Medicaid or Medicare coverage. If needed, our case managers can also assist you with applications for Medicare Advantage Plans, Medicare Part D for prescription drug coverage, Social Security and low-income subsidies. They can also provide you with important information on community resources. Since MississippiCare is a federally qualified health center in Mississippi, you will be able to receive medical care that is part of your Medicare or Medicaid coverage. What can I expect from my Welcome to Medicare visit? Your first visit after signing up for Medicare includes a physical exam, certain health screenings, vaccinations if needed, blood pressure readings and other tests. Your physician will ask you to provide information on current or past medical conditions, as well as any medications you are taking, your medical history and your family medical history. Can I receive discounted services? MississippiCare does offer a sliding fee scale for patients who are experiencing financial difficulty paying for medical care. We use your income to determine your fees. Can I get breast care services? If you need financial assistance for breast care services such as mammograms, we partner with the Susan G. Komen Foundation so that we can offer you services when you need them. What family care services are available under state and federal aid programs? These programs typically include perinatal care, family planning, WIC program (Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children), sexually transmitted disease (STD) education and screenings, diagnostics and treatment for STDs.
